By 1993 the line had stopped apologising for weight. The VIII is dense, strapped and lined like a boot.
Two crossing straps do the lockdown work that laces alone had been failing at, and the chenille tongue patch is pure excess in the best way.
It is the least minimal shoe in the archive and, for exactly that reason, one of the most photographed.
