/ Why it exists
The IV took everything the line had been hiding and put it on the outside.
Mesh panels, moulded plastic lace wings, a visible heel window: each piece announces what it is for. It is a shoe that explains itself while you are looking at it.
That legibility is why it still photographs so well nearly four decades on. There is no wasted surface anywhere on it.
